Oregon Coast

This past week Kyle & I went with his family to the Oregon Coast.  The Oregon Coast is about 7 hours from Spokane, so we drove over on Sunday morning and had the whole week to explore the coast and relax.  The Oregon Coast is very different from the East Coast.  The average temperature in the summer is 65 degrees and it's often foggy and overcast.  Needless to say, you don't do much lounging on the beach. We spent most of our time driving to little coast towns and exploring.  It was lots of fun!

Here's a picture of the coastline.

One of our favorite places to go on the coast is the town of Seaside.  They have an arcade with my favorite arcade game- Skee Ball and a bumper car course. Can't beat it!

Here's Heather & Me with all the tickets we won playing skee ball.

Another thing we did was crabbing.  We got to the dock around 9am and rented a few crabbing pots and spent the morning waiting for the crabs to arrive. We were unlucky and only caught one we could keep (you can't keep females).  So we ended up giving the one away and just buying crabs from the market.  At the dock where we went crabbing they had a group of sea lions just hanging out. They were fun to watch and surprisingly vocal and feisty.

For those of you who know me at all, you know that I have a slight obsession with llamas.  About 15 minutes from our house there was a place where you could go and feed the llamas, ponies and goats.

Every night when we got home from our excursion of the day we would watch the Olympics and play the Wii. Our favorite game is Mario Kart.

The highlight of the week was when Sally decided to sleep with her windows open at night (to hear the ocean) and woke up at 1am to the sounds of bats in her bedroom. This induced mass chaos in the house- her bedroom was a loft so the bats were essentially free in the whole house.  If you've read our bat posting from Austin you will know that I hate bats. I hid in my bedroom with Kyle and just listened to Sally & Heather try to shoo the bats out the window.  They ended up not being successful and poor Sally had to spend the night on her bathroom floor.

We're back in Spokane now for 2 more weeks. We're heading to Seattle for Labor Day weekend and we fly out on September 2nd.
